2026–2027 DRESS CODE

At The Dance Company, proper attire and footwear help create a safe, focused, and professional learning environment. Please make sure your dancer arrives prepared for every class.

 

WHERE TO PURCHASE

Bou Cou – Coeur d’Alene | Empire Dance Shop – Spokane

Both stores carry the required TDC shoes and tights and can help with proper sizing. We strongly recommend a fitting for first-time dance shoe purchases. Please do not purchase dance shoes or tights from Target or other non-dance-specific stores, as they may not meet our required color, fit, material, or style.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Dancers must arrive in the required dress code and shoes for their class.

  • Hair must be securely pulled back and out of the face for all classes. Follow specific bun/hairstyle requirements when applicable.

  • Dancers who are not properly dressed may be asked to borrow appropriate gear from the teachers' room or sit out of class if the correct items are unavailable.

  • Please label all shoes and dancewear with your dancer's name.

  • Replace shoes and tights when they become worn or no longer provide proper support.

  • Winter Showcase & Spring Recital: Required performance tights are included with costumes.

 

CLASS-SPECIFIC DRESS CODE

Tiny Tots / Itty Bitty
Comfortable, form-fitting dancewear such as leotards, tank tops, shorts, or leggings.
Shoes: Pink ballet slippers; black tap shoes required January–May.

Ballet
Black leotard, clean pink tights, pink ballet slippers, and hair in a secure ballet bun.
Level 1: Bloch Belle — Pink
Levels 2–5: Bloch Pump — Pink

Rising Stars / Jazz
Form-fitting dancewear such as shorts, capris, jazz pants, tanks, or leotards. Baggy clothing is not permitted.
Shoes: Tan jazz shoes.

Hip Hop
Comfortable athletic/dancewear and clean tennis shoes.

Acro
Form-fitting clothing such as leggings, biker shorts, tank tops, or fitted athletic tops. Baggy clothing is not permitted. Dancers participate barefoot unless instructed otherwise.

Competitive Teams
All-black, form-fitting dancewear with hair securely pulled back. Jazz shoes or lyrical half soles as instructed by the teacher.
